Domaine Dalamara

Domaine Dalamara is a boutique family owned winery in Naoussa Imathia, Greece, little over an hour drive from Thessaloniki. The vineyards are on the Eastern foothills of the Vermio mountains and devoted to organic vineyard farming, sustainability and the production of high quality wines. However, the family’s bond with viticulture and wine dates back to 1840, according to a contract preserved till today. A marking point in the winery’s history, was the purchase of the ‘Paliokalias’ vineyard in the 60’s, which is considered one of the Grand Crus of Naoussa.

Kostis Dalamara, studied Oenology in Beaune and worked in Gevrey-Chambertin, Alsace, Roussillon and Catalonia. Kostis took over the winery in 2011 and is committed in the production of high quality wines and a person with a deep knowledge of his vineyards. He believes that the only way to produce high-end Xinomavro wines is to know how to ‘read’ your terroir. Xinomavro is one of the most idiosyncratic varieties and it requires demanding but careful handling in the vineyard and minimum intervention in the cellar in order to tame its rich tannic potential and reveal its seductive elegance at the same time. Total annual production is 60-65.000 bottles, 80% of which is exported worldwide.

The estate tries to maintain their wines and visits as sustainable as possible:

  • Viticulture and wine production have been certified organic since 1996.
  • Since 2018, the winery operates 100% with solar power.
  • All residue resulting from winemaking and distillation are recycled through compost, which is then used to fertilize the soils.
  • The winery minimizes sprayings and the use of tractors, by the installation of a weather recording system in the vineyards.
